Asian Barbequed chicken

submitted by: thenaturalizedcitizen.com

There was a Chinese take-out place on the corner of Martel Ave. and Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles  in the 70's.  This is the flavor I remember of their grilled chicken, it takes me right back to being 12 years old.

1    chicken, cut into 8-10 pieces, or 3-4 pounds chicken parts
10  cloves garlic, finely minced
2    Tbsp. black peppercorns, roughly crushed in a plastic bag with a spoon or mallet
2    Tbsp. brandy-do not omit, gives special flavor!
1     Tbsp. sugar
1/3 cup soy sauce

Mix marinade ingredients in a gallon size ziplock.  Add chicken and refrigerate for at 6-12 hours.  Throw out the marinade.  Grill chicken over medium-low heat until done, or bake in 400 degree oven for 45  minutes.  Serve with sweet and sour chilli dipping sauce.
